Both of these tools get recommended to Indian agencies for the same reason: they're the cheap ones. Hootsuite and Sprout price like enterprise software, so a six-client agency in Indore or Jaipur looks at Publer and SocialPilot and tries to pick. Almost every comparison you'll find answers the wrong question — which has more integrations, which has a nicer calendar. Neither of those decides anything at eight clients.
The questions that decide it are: what does each one cost per client account as you grow, and what happens on the day a client wants to see the content before it goes out. Here's how they actually differ on both.
What do Publer and SocialPilot cost an agency?
The list prices, as published on each tool's own pricing page at the time of writing. Both bill in US dollars.
| Tier | SocialPilot | Publer |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | None (14-day trial) | Yes — 3 accounts, 1 user, 10 pending posts per account |
| Entry paid | Essentials, $20/mo — 5 accounts, 1 user | Professional, from $12/mo |
| Small team | Standard, $40/mo — 10 accounts, 3 users | Business, from $21/mo |
| Agency tier | Premium, $100/mo — 20 accounts, 6 users | No separate agency tier |
| Top tier | Ultimate, $200/mo — 40 accounts, unlimited users | Add accounts to Business (~$4/mo each) |
| White-label reports | Premium and Ultimate only | Not offered |
| Client seats & approvals | Unlimited client seats, Premium and up | Workspace members only |
Read that table twice, because the headline comparison — $12 versus $20 — is not the comparison you'll actually live with. SocialPilot's cheap plans are the ones without any agency features in them. The moment a client asks to approve posts, or your retainer promises a branded report, you're on the $100 plan and Publer is four to five times cheaper.
The same agency, priced both ways
Take a realistic Indian agency: twelve clients, most with an Instagram account and a Facebook page, a few with LinkedIn or Google Business Profile as well. Call it 30 connected accounts and three people on the team — you, a designer and a content person.
- SocialPilot: 30 accounts exceeds Premium's 20, so you're on Ultimate at $200/month. At roughly ₹88 to the dollar, that's about ₹17,600 a month, or ₹2.1 lakh a year.
- Publer: Business covers the team, and you add accounts beyond the included allowance at about $4 each. Call it $21 plus add-ons — somewhere around $40–60/month, or ₹3,500–5,300.
That's a three-to-four times difference on the same client load, and it's the honest reason Publer keeps getting recommended in Indian agency groups. But you're not buying the same thing. On the SocialPilot side, that ₹17,600 includes unlimited client logins and white-label PDF reports. On the Publer side, it doesn't, and you'll either build reports manually or pay a reporting tool — which puts you back near the same number with two subscriptions instead of one.
Which one handles client approvals properly?
Neither, honestly — but SocialPilot gets closer.
SocialPilot's Premium and Ultimate plans give you unlimited client seats plus approval workflows, so a client can log in, see the drafts assigned to their brand, and approve or comment. That's a genuine agency feature and it's the main thing you're paying the Premium jump for.
Publer has workspaces and member roles, and you can hold posts for approval inside a workspace. The catch is structural: a client reviewer is a workspace member, so brands with two or three stakeholders — the founder, the marketing lead, sometimes the founder's spouse, which is a real thing in Indian family businesses — start consuming seats.
Both share a deeper problem. They were built as scheduling tools that added approvals, so approval is a checkbox on a desktop calendar. Your client isn't sitting at a desktop calendar. They're on a phone, in a WhatsApp-shaped mental model, and they want to swipe through nine creatives and say yes. We wrote about that mismatch in detail in WhatsApp vs a client portal — the short version is that approval tools fail on adoption, not features. If the client won't open it, the workflow doesn't exist.

Where each tool genuinely wins
Publer — the better buy under ten clients
Publer's strength is that it doesn't punish you for growing slowly. The free plan is genuinely usable for three accounts, which is enough to run your own agency's socials or a first client while you're still a freelancer. The paid jump is small, the post composer is good, and it covers more networks than most tools at this price. If your clients approve content over WhatsApp anyway — and most small Indian retainers do — you are paying for scheduling, and Publer is the better-priced scheduler.
SocialPilot — the better buy if reports are contractual
If your proposals promise a branded monthly report and your clients expect a login, SocialPilot's Premium tier is a defensible spend — you're buying the reporting and client-access layer, and scheduling comes with it. Its bulk scheduling is also better than Publer's for agencies that plan a full month in one sitting. What you're accepting is a steep cliff: everything agency-shaped is above $100/month, and the plans below it are effectively SMB tools.
What neither one solves for an Indian agency
This is the part the international comparisons skip, and it's the part that costs you the most.
- You're paying in dollars. Both price in USD, so your software cost moves with the rupee, and your card adds a forex markup on top — commonly around 3%. A $200 plan is not a fixed line item in your P&L.
- No GST invoice in your name, the easy way. Buying software from a foreign supplier doesn't hand you a clean domestic tax invoice with your GSTIN on it; import-of-service rules and reverse charge come into play. We've written up what that means for input credit on agency expenses.
- They stop at publishing. Neither tool invoices your client, tracks TDS deducted, chases a payment, or holds your content brief and design files. So the ₹17,600 is never the real number — add the invoicing tool, the reporting tool, the storage, the project board.
- No Indian support hours. Both run on US and European support clocks. When a Meta token breaks at 9pm IST before a festive-campaign launch, you're filing a ticket.
That last point is the one that pushed us to build our own system. We ran an agency for years on stitched-together international tools, and the failure was never a missing feature — it was five tools that didn't know about each other, all billed in a currency we don't earn in. If you're weighing this stack in a market where clients still pay by UPI and expect a GST invoice on the 1st, our agency management software page and the SocialPilot alternatives for Indian agencies post lay out the alternative shape.
The 30-second decision
- Freelancer or under 5 clients → Publer, possibly free tier.
- 5–15 clients, informal approvals → Publer Business. Save the difference.
- Retainers that promise branded reports and client logins → SocialPilot Premium.
- 20+ clients → Price SocialPilot Ultimate honestly against an all-in-one; at that scale the tool sprawl costs more than any one subscription.
- Indian agency needing GST invoicing, TDS tracking and rupee billing in the same place → neither, and that's not a knock on them; it isn't what they're for.
Whichever you choose, check the live pricing pages before you commit — both tools have restructured their tiers more than once, and the account limits move around more than the headline prices do. And if you're building an agency in a specific market, our Jaipur agency guide and the other city pages show what local clients typically pay, which is the number your software budget should actually be sized against.
FAQ
Is Publer or SocialPilot cheaper for an agency?
Publer is cheaper at almost every account count, because its paid plans start around $12/month against SocialPilot's $20. The gap narrows once you need the features SocialPilot puts on its $100/month Premium tier — client seats, approval workflows and white-label reports — which Publer does not match.
Does Publer have white-label client reports?
No. Publer offers workspaces, team roles and an approval step inside the workspace, but it does not sell white-label reporting the way SocialPilot does on Premium and Ultimate. If your retainer promises a branded monthly report, Publer means you build that deck yourself or pay for a separate reporting tool.
Can clients approve posts without a paid seat?
On SocialPilot, client seats are unlimited but only from the Premium plan upward. On Publer, a client who needs to see and comment on drafts occupies a workspace member slot, so approvals get more expensive as you add brands. Neither gives the client a mobile app built for reviewing content.
Do Publer and SocialPilot bill in rupees with GST?
Neither prices in rupees. Both bill in US dollars, so your cost moves with the exchange rate and your card adds a forex markup, typically around 3%. You also don't get a domestic GST invoice with your GSTIN in the normal way, which complicates input credit compared with buying from an Indian supplier.
