How do you make a social media content calendar?
Generate your calendar
How to use the content calendar generator
- Pick the month and year, and how many posts a week you can produce consistently.
- Tick the platforms. Each post is planned as a cross-post to all of them. Delete platforms per row in the sheet if a post is platform-specific.
- Set the format mix. With weights of 40 / 30 / 30, about 40% of posts become reels. Formats are interleaved so you don't get three reels in a row.
- Skip days and dates: weekends, festivals, launch-day blackouts, the client's holidays. Posts move to the remaining days in that week, and carry into the next week if a week is full.
- Add content pillars (optional) and they rotate through the month.
- Download the CSV and fill in topics and captions with your team, or print the month for a planning meeting.
Opening the CSV in Google Sheets or Excel
- Google Sheets: File → Import → Upload, choose the downloaded file, then pick "Insert new sheet(s)" or "Replace current sheet".
- Excel: open the file directly. It is saved as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so ₹ and non-English pillar names display correctly.
- Columns: Date, Day, Time, Platforms, Format, Content pillar, Topic / hook, Caption, Status. Topic, caption and status are left for your team to fill in.
A spreadsheet is a fine place to start. Once you're running calendars for several clients, approvals and publishing are where sheets start to break down. We compared the two in Google Sheets vs content calendar software.

Frequently asked questions
How many posts per week should I plan?
There is no universal number. Plan a frequency your team can deliver every week at the same quality. Consistency matters more than volume, and you can raise the number next month once the workflow holds.
Does the CSV work in Google Sheets and Excel?
Yes. It is a standard comma-separated file saved as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark. In Google Sheets use File, Import, Upload. In Excel, open the file directly.
How does the generator spread posts across the month?
It works out a monthly total from your posts per week and the length of the month, then splits it across the calendar weeks in proportion to how many postable (not skipped) days each week has. Inside each week, posts go on evenly spaced days that you haven't skipped. If skipped days leave a week too full, the extra posts carry into the next week.
Can I skip festivals or holidays?
Yes. Type the day numbers into "Skip specific dates", for example 2, 15, 26, and those dates stay empty. Whole weekdays, such as Sundays, can be skipped with the day checkboxes.
Is my calendar saved anywhere?
No. The calendar and the CSV are generated in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page unless you download the CSV.
